Michael Vermeulen leads high-density residential builds for Home Construction, focused on delivering affordable homes across Aotearoa.
He brings over 20 years' experience combining business innovation, carpentry, and project management, based out of Home Construction's Christchurch office. After completing a Bachelor of Business Innovation and Enterprise, Michael transitioned into carpentry before joining Home Construction in 2012, where he oversaw 500–600 earthquake repairs, established RHP2 for Housing New Zealand, delivering 125 homes, and managed the 84-home development, The Residences at Karamū.
He works closely with build partners to keep projects collaborative and efficient, and is passionate about driving a culture shift in the industry, embracing teamwork and a positive mindset to change how homes get built. Michael holds a Bachelor of Business in Innovation and Enterprise and a National Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4), pairing practical trade skills with business insight.
One of his proudest achievements is managing the construction of Kia koa te Whenua, Home Construction's own new office premises, designed for 50 staff, turning the owner's vision into a welcoming workspace and reflecting his commitment to creating spaces that truly feel like home.
“Outside of work, Michael is happiest spending time with his wife and their dog, Chewbacca. Always on the move, he enjoys cycling and running, and still finds time to line up a few shots at the snooker table.
