Our vision
Jackson Street is a remediation project covering 36 units across three-storey walk-up apartment blocks. Home Construction delivered the work as part of a larger development the team worked through over four years.
Alongside the repairs, the project added measures to keep the buildings dry and sound over the long term. Sensors now track moisture inside the walls, and one block trialled an external insulation and cladding system. The block closest to the river was given a strengthened foundation.

Moisture monitoring
Wi-Fi-connected sensors were installed in internal and external wall and ceiling cavities. They track temperature and humidity changes before and during occupation.
External insulation trial
One block was converted to external insulation with a new overlay cladding system. The trial moves the dew point outside the poured in-situ concrete walls.
Central HVAC system
A central HVAC system was installed.
Fully wrapped blocks
Each block was scaffolded over and fully wrapped during construction.
Site constraints & complexity
Staged delivery over four years
The blocks were part of a larger development that the team worked through over four years.
Occupied neighbouring blocks
The other blocks in the development stayed occupied throughout construction.
Site constraints & complexity
Strengthened foundations near the river
One block of apartments sat very close to the river, so drawing on lessons from properties beside waterways in the Christchurch earthquakes, the team added piles around the perimeter and under the structure, and extensively upgraded and strengthened the foundation system.
